For this book cover project, I created a logotype and cover design for a new book series called "Famous Couples", by Penguin Books. Each book tells the story of a famous couple, such as Adam and Eve, Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, Freddie Mercury and Jim Hutton, Kermit & Miss Piggy, etc. I chose Woody and Bo Peep, because I felt like I could highlight the playful nature of their relationship.

TITLE RESEARCH
For the title, I wanted to make sure the reference to Toy Story was known. I feel sometimes people can forget that Woody and Bo Peep were a couple, since their romantic relationship was not obvious in the earlier movies. To tie their two names together, I used a similar font and style of the "STORY" in the Toy Story logo. For their individual names, I drew out Woody's name on illustrator in a similar fashion to his character's historical "logo", which was written in a lasso. The font I used for Bo Peep was based on the font Savbo, but I made some modifications to fit her playful, innocent style.
ARTWORK RESEARCH
For the main graphic, I needed to represent both characters individually, as well as their relationship. In my explorations, I tried using Woody's lasso, hat, and eventually his boot, which I feel is his most recognizable attribute as a character. For Bo Peep it is definitely her staff, as well as her bow that she wears in her hair. Every time there is affection shown between Woody and Bo Peep, Bo typically has her staff around Woody's neck, pulling him close to her. Having her staff pulling Woody’s boot was the best way to display their playful relationship, making the famous couple easy to recognize.
